Doris Stright

Doris Stright, 88, of St. Joseph, formerly of Stevensville, died June 2, 2015 at Lakeland Medical Center St. Joseph. She is survived by her husband, Paul, two daughters Linda K. Stright of St. Joseph and Nancy L. (Mark) Butler of Detroit and two grandchildren, Erin and Colin Butler, a niece and two nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and a sister Helen McAlpine. Doris was born December 27, 1926 to Howard and Hazel (Wolf) Tuttle in Gowanda, NY. After graduating from Buffalo State Teachers College with a BS and MS in Elementary Education, she taught at Attica, NY and Kenmore, NY before marrying Paul L. Stright in Kenmore, NY on July 9, 1960. She substituted in the Lakeshore and St. Joseph public schools and retired from the math department at Lake Michigan College. She was an active member of Stevensville United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Church Women United, and Berrien County Association of Churches. She enjoyed music, travel, reading and living Whitcomb Retirement Residence. Visitation will be held at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph from 10 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Saturday, June 6, 2015 with a memorial service immediately following led by Rev. Gordon Barry. Cremation has taken place and a private burial will be held at a later date.
