William Clifford Smith

William “Will” C. Smith, 57, of St. Joseph, MI passed away peacefully Friday, April 24, 2015 at Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph with loving family and friends by his side. A Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with an Elks Ceremony held at 5:30 P.M. A Celebration of Life Gathering of family and friends will be held at the Elks Lodge 541 in Benton Harbor after the visitation. Will was born September 12, 1957 in Benton Harbor, MI to William & Louise (DeHaven) Smith. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1975 and went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation from Michigan State University in 1979. On December 8, 1988 he wed Jeannette Mashak in Las Vegas, NV. Will owned and operated the family business Smith Steel Fabricating Company for 25 years in Benton Harbor. Most recently working at Liberty Steel as a sales estimator for 9 years. He was a member of the St. Joseph/Benton Harbor Elks Lodge 541 for 33 years. Will was an avid golfer and Michigan State fan and also enjoyed grilling and entertaining his friends and family. He was a funny, giving and caring man who will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years Jeannette; daughters Margaret “Maggie” Smith of St. Joseph and Anna Davis of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sister Cathryn(Tony) Canonie of Coloma; nieces and nephews Wesley P. Smith, Melody B. Smith and Drake A. Smith, Ericka Lindemann and Jon Mashak; and mother- in- law Maxine Iversen. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Philip Smith in November 2014 and father-in-laws James Mashak and Richard Iversen.
