Arvin's Obituary

Arvin Edward Lachman, 88, of Stevensville, MI, was welcomed into heaven on Friday, March 20, 2015. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home in St. Joseph. Arv was born in Benton Harbor, MI on Nov. 5, 1926 to the late Edward and Lydia (Steinke) Lachman. On Sept. 18, 1948, he married Betty Weberling, and together they navigated 66 years of marriage until his passing. Many people throughout the area remember Arv as ‘the Keebler Cookie man’, a position he held for 36 years before his retirement in 1987. He was a devout Lutheran, loved watching Jeopardy, and working the daily cross word puzzle. Arv is survived by his wife Betty; daughters Linda (Robert) Pedde of Franklin, TN and Jill (Joseph) Gorzalski of Carmel, IN; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and a son-in-law Dave Babcock. He was preceded in death by a daughter Cindy Babcock and his two brothers Alfred and Edgar Lachman. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tues., March 24, 1:00pm at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI with Pastor Noah Hedrick officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 12 noon until 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery in Stevensville, MI. Memorial contributions may be made in Arvin’s name to Grace Lutheran Church, 404 E. Glenlord Rd., St. Joseph, MI 49085.
