Marjorie Stock Clemens

Marjorie Stock Clemens, 96, of Benton Harbor, MI passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Chelsea Community Hospital in Chelsea, MI.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may visit from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Priscilla U. Byrns Heritage Center or Sarett Nature Center. Those wishing to share a memory of Marjorie online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com  Marjorie was born June 1, 1918 in Benton Harbor, MI to Stanley & Lenore (Netting) Stock. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1936 and went on to receive a Bachelors degree in Economics from the University of Michigan. On January 31, 1942 she married Joseph D. Clemens in Biloxi, Mississippi where he was stationed in the Army. Marjorie was a homemaker who was active in the community. Among other things she was a member of Antiquarians and Monday Musical. She was also a board member of St. Joe Today from 1986 -1998. She was Treasurer during construction of The Ft. Miami Heritage Society Building which now is the Priscilla U. Byrns Heritage Center in St. Joseph. She also volunteered at the St. Joseph Library and was Membership Chair of the Friends of the Library. In her spare time she enjoyed playing bridge and gardening. She and Joe spent endless hours at their cabin up north. Marjorie was fondly know by her family as “Grandma in the Woods”  Marjorie is survived by her children Joseph (Linda) Clemens of Bethlehem, PA., Mary (Jim) Randolph of Chelsea, MI., and Marge Clemens (Bob LaVeque) Boulder Creek, CA; six grandchildren Curt, Brian, Jocelyn, Mike, Chris and Annie; five great grandchildren. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband Joe and sister Marion McKenna.
