Dorothy Hawks

Dorothy M. Hawks, 93, of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at her residence at The Whitcomb. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 P.M. Monday, March 23, 2015 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Dorothy was born December 3, 1921 to Harley and Ollie (Swaggarty) Hawks in Perry, Iowa.  After high school, Dorothy received her degree in Physical Education. During her teaching career, Dorothy taught at Benton Harbor and Lawton Schools. She was a member of the Twin Cities Players. In her free time she enjoyed traveling with Sarett Nature Center and reading. Dorothy is survived by her dear friend Steven Lemon.  She is preceded in death by her parents Harley and Ollie Hawks, her brothers Charles Hawks, and Harry Hawks; sister Clara Hawks; and dear friend Mary Torre. Dorothy’s wish was for her body to be donated to Science.
