Edward's Obituary
On Saturday, December 13, 2014, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away. Edward Danapilis died surrounded by his family at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. His loud, boisterous, yet caring personality influenced his sons and enlightened the hearts of those who hung around the house or spent time with him at Eaton Park. For nearly forty years, he gave his heart and soul to the youth of St. Joseph. Edward inspired and motivated thousands throughout his life and there is no doubt he made the world a better place. His willingness to be a steward of time, talent, and treasure to youth baseball and youth rocket football shaped the lives of so many including his five sons. Known as “Big Ed”, his love for family, friends, and community was larger than life.
Edward was born April 8, 1941 in Kaunas, Lithuania. He came to the United States when he was ten years old. He graduated from South Haven High School in 1960. He married Angeline Capaccio on October 15, 1966, who he loved and shared forty eight wonderful years with. One of his greatest joys was watching and coaching his five sons as they grew up. Another was spending time with his nine grandchildren. Edward has left an imprint on his family who will now strive to spread his love and service through their actions in their own communities.
He is survived by his wife Angeline, his sons Eric (Caroline) of St. Joseph, Andrew (Mary Beth) of California, Christopher (partner Matty) of New York, Adam (Lisa) of Portage, Marc (Nikki) of Benton Harbor, and nine beautiful grandchildren. The funeral will be Friday, December 19, 2014, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church at 11:00 am. It is located at 555 East Delaware, Benton Harbor, MI 49022. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Edward Danapilis Memorial Scholarship Fund. Monetary donations can be sent to 621 Cliffwood Avenue, Portage, MI, 49002.
