Joan M. VanDerAue

Joan M. VanDerAue, 81, of St. Joseph passed away on Sunday Dec. 28, 2014. Arrangements have been entrusted with Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home in St. Joseph, MI. Joan was born in Benton Harbor, MI on March 10, 1933 to Joseph and Elsie (Zupke) Katowich. On October 4, 1952 in St. Joseph she married Lynn Myles VanDerAue. Joan worked at the Coca Cola Bottling Co. in St. Joseph, and also at Cedarwood Medical Center as a book keeper – retiring in 1998 after 18 years of service. She was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in St. Joseph. Joan leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband Lynn; her two children-Janice (James) Sanders of St. Joseph and Thomas (Judy) VanDerAue of St. Joseph; three grandchildren-Benjamin Sanders of St. Joseph, Thomas Sanders of Las Vegas and Kyle VanDerAue of St. Joseph; a brother-James Katowich of Sodus; and a sister-in-law Sandra Katowich of South Bend. She is preceded in death by her parents-Joseph and Elsie, and a brother-Joseph. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 4:00PM at Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. B. Gordon Barry officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 3:00-4:00PM at the funeral home. Joan’s final resting place will be at North Shore Memory Gardens.
