Kathy's Obituary

Kathy Hickman, 45, and Kevin Hickman, 49 of St. Joseph, passed away, Thursday, December 11, 2014 at home. Mass of Christian Burial for Kathy & Kevin will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 555 E. Delaware Ave., Benton Harbor, with Fr. William J. Jacobs, Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Berrien Springs.  Friends may visit Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. with Prayers recited at 7:30 P.M. at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph.  Memorial donations may be made to St. John-St. Bernard Parish Children’s Ministry or the Berrien Springs Athletic Alumni Scholarship Fund.  Those wishing to sign Kathy & Kevin’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Kathy was born March 27, 1969 in Niles, Michigan to Thomas & Marlene (Sech) Zeug.  She graduated from Schoolcraft High School in 1987 and attended Central Michigan University.  On September 22, 1989, she married Kevin Hickman in Kalamazoo.  Kathy taught Pre-school for seven years before gaining employment with Berecz & Associates, PLC as a legal assistant, where she was currently employed.  She was a member of St.-John-St. Bernard Parish where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and taught Sunday School.  Kathy enjoyed exercising & tending to her flower gardens. Kevin was born January 14, 1965 in Benton Harbor to Ben F. & Mae P. (Baker) Hickman.  He graduated from Berrien Springs High School in 1983 and attended Hillsdale College on a Football Scholarship.  On September 22, 1989 he married the former Kathleen Zeug in Kalamazoo.  Kevin served as Regional manager for Tru Green-Chem Lawn, and most recently as National Sales Manager for Sportsline Distributors of Northbrook, Illinois.  He was a member of St. John-St. Bernard Parish and was the founder of the Berrien Springs Athletic Alumni Scholarship Fund.  He was an avid University of Michigan Football Fan and an avid collector of antiques and memorabilia. Kathy & Kevin both enjoyed the outdoors-fishing, camping, and spending time with family.  They devoted their lives to their faith and to their two boys. They are survived by their two sons-Kristopher Benjamin Hickman, (fiancée  Alecia Eichberg) and Ryan Matthew Hickman-both of St. Joseph; five nephews, two nieces, & four great-nieces; aunts, uncles, cousins & friends too numerous to mention.  In addition Kathy is survived by her parents Tom & Marlene Zeug of Schoolcraft, MI; three brothers-Thomas (Theresa) Zeug, Jr. of Dunlap, OH, Gregory (Kim) Zeug of Shelby Twp., MI, Douglas (Kelley) Zeug of Rockford, MI.   Kevin is survived by his parents Ben & Mae Hickman of Stevensville, MI and his sister Karen (Colin) Cowan of Berrien Springs, MI.  Kevin was preceded in death by two infant brothers.
