Daniel's Obituary

Daniel James Winger, 74, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, December 22, 2014 at home following an 18-month battle with leukemia. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., with Hospice Chaplain Scott Labbe officiating. Friends may visit from 2 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Marie Yeager Cancer Center or Hospice. Those wishing to share a memory of Daniel may do so online at www.starks-menchinger.com. Daniel was born April 30, 1940 in Oil City, Pennsylvania to James and Elizabeth (Pullease) Winger. He graduated from Oil City High School in 1958. Daniel married Patricia “Patty” (Coyne) on April 4, 1964 in Oil City, PA. He was a Design Engineer at US Steel, Sumitec, and Harbor Brake Beam until retiring. One of Daniel’s favorite hobbies was golfing as often as possible. Other hobbies that he enjoyed were coaching baseball, wrestling in high school, working on his internet based golf equipment business, walking with his dog Emma, spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities and other sporting events. Daniel is survived by his wife Patty; children, Stephen (Patricia) Winger of Valparaiso, David (Kari) Winger of Niles, Timothy of Benton Harbor, Julie (Piontek) of Baroda, Lynn (JD) Kensinger of Holland; grandchildren Erin, Nathan, Denver, Morgan, Lindsey, Grayson, and Mikaela; brothers Frank “Bud” Winger of Oil City, Pa, Dave (Kay) Winger of Orlando, FL, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Daniel is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Phil Winger.
