Marilyn Leigh Hummelberg

October 23rd, 1937 - December 14th, 2014

Marilyn's Obituary

Marilyn Leigh Hummelberg, 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 14, 2014 surrounded by her family and her beloved dog, Lily. Marilyn was born on October, 23, 1937 to Muriel (Kingston) Vosburgh and Lawrence Edward Vosburgh in Park Ridge, IL. Marilyn married the love of her life, Don Hummelberg, on February 21, 1959. They were married 55 years and had two children; son, David Hummelberg and daughter, Tracy (Hummelberg) Adams. Marilyn’s heart was big and compassionate and drawn to helping those less fortunate. She had a special place in her heart for the elderly, the quiet and lost. She didn’t want anyone to feel invisible in her presence. Marilyn volunteered her time at Lakeland Hospital, Riverwood Center, Blossomtime, Twin City Players and tirelessly devoted her attention and support to all friends who knew Bill W. and his wife, Lois. She was a lifelong dog lover, avid reader, loved puzzles, puns, word play of any kind, and her sense of humor and practical jokes were legendary. Marilyn enjoyed dancing, writing and interior design. Marilyn was a proud 30 year breast cancer survivor. She was also brave as she valiantly and quietly battled Agoraphobia all her life. She founded the first local support group in our area in 1978. Marilyn taught her children how to be fearless, strong, independent and very, very funny. Marilyn’s daily wish was to feel at peace and not be afraid. God has granted her wish. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Donald Keith Hummelberg of St. Joseph; son, David Keith Hummelberg (wife, Lisa Hummelberg) of Corona Del Mar, CA; daughter, Tracy Leigh Adams (husband, Barry Adams) of Sodus; and 5 grandkids: Julianne, Ali, Hannah and Grace Hummelberg, and Brady Adams. She is also survived by her brother and his family: Richard Vosburgh (wife, “Lucky” Vosburgh); and their sons, Steve (Julie) Vosburgh and Peter (Ann-Marie) Vosburgh. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Muriel Vosburgh. Marilyn will be fiercely missed and forever loved by all who know her. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:30 A.M., Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd.  St. Joseph with Rev. Linda Beushausen, CEO of Hospice at Home, officiating. Luncheon to follow. Friends may visit from 10:30 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home.
