Catherine's Obituary

Catherine B. Cowan, 85, of Stevensville, MI passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd. with Rev. Laurie Hartzell officiating. Burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may visit from noon until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross. Those wishing to sign Catherine’s guestbook may do so online at www.starks-menchinger.com. Catherine was born January 4, 1929 in Falkirk, Scotland to Colin & Catherine (Sommerfeld) Drummond. On March 3, 1950 she wed Malcolm Cowan in Motherwell, Scotland. Catherine and Malcolm immigrated to California in 1964.  They moved to Michigan in 1966 where Catherine would then go on to work for over 20 years at Avion Coach.  She then went on to work as a receptionist for the Berrien County Red Cross until her retirement. Catherine was loved by her family as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by all. She is survived by her sons Andrew Cowan of St. Joseph and Colin (Karen) Cowan of Berrien Springs; daughter in law Betty Cowan; five grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister Charlotte Harrison of Hamilton, Scotland. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Malcolm Cowan in 2011, son Malcolm Cowan in 2013 and siblings Tom Drummond, Colin Drummond, Ine McGlade, John Drummond, Margaret Hurst and James Drummond.
