Robert Leroy Forbes

Robert L. Forbes, 89, of South Bend, IN formerly of Dubuque, IA passed away Friday, October 17, 2014 at Southfield Village in South Bend. Robert was born on February 14, 1925 in Peru, IL to Carmi & Josephine (Elliston) Forbes. He married Patricia A. Barbier on May 13, 1967 at St. Cecilia Church in Peoria, IL. Robert attended University of Illinois and University of Wisconsin. He proudly served his country as a Private First Class in the United States Army from 1943 until 1945. Robert was employed as a sales supervisor for Gulf Oil Company for 28 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Church of the Resurrection and Knights of Columbus both of Dubuque, IA, and American Legion Post #445 of Bradford, IL. Robert enjoyed volunteering for Mobile Meals and was an avid golfer. Robert is survived by his nephews Harry R. (Donna) Traugh of South Bend, IN, James (Nikki) Traugh of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Thomas (Ann) Traugh of Stevensville; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded by his parents; his wife, Patricia Forbes in 2012; and sister Catherine (Harry) Traugh. Burial will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Peoria, IL. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Services.
