Wilkenina's Obituary
Wilkenina (Nina) Soltero de Ballester, 83, of Puerto Rico peacefully passed away on Oct. 8, 2014 at the Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, MI. A Mass Christian Burial celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 AM, October 11, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in St. Joseph, MI. Visitation will be from 9:30AM to 10:00AM at the church.
Nina was born February 9, 1931, in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico to Marceliana Nazario and Felix Soltero. She graduated Magna cum Laude from the University of Mayaguez. On July 25, 1954 she married Miguel A. Ballester of Mayaguez and resided in Guayama, Puerto Rico. Nina taught High School Biology, Math, Physics and Chemistry for over 35 years, as well as English as a second language and retired in 1989. Nina gave of herself to care for her family. Throughout her life, Nina enjoyed music, dancing, reading, playing golf and creating bobbing lace. She was Secretary of the Aguirre Country Club and a member of the Ladies Rotary Club of Guayama.
She is preceded by her loving daughter Nina and is survived by her husband Miguel A. Ballester and daughters Heidi Roberson (Bruce) and Wilmi Schmidt (Martin); granddaughters Adrianna Helton (Dustin) and Nicole Roberson; and her brother Mortimer Soltero.
