Larry B. Hinkelman, 78, of Benton Harbor, MI passed away Monday, November 3, 2014 at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles, MI.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 10:00 AM Friday, November 7, 2014 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 3713 Naomi Rd., Sodus, MI with Rev. Robert Duehlmeyer officiating. Burial to follow at Crystal Springs Cemetery in Benton Harbor. Friends may visit Thursday, November 6, 2014 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph. Larry was born January 10, 1936 in Benton Harbor, MI to Erwin & Vera (Radde) Hinkelman. He was a 1954 graduate of Benton Harbor High School. Larry was a truck driver for Advance Trucking for 39 years, where he drove over 3.5 million miles and received a truck driving award. He was a member of the DANK, the Elks Lodge 345 and the Blizzard Brigade Snowmobile Club. Larry was a proud owner of the Hinkelman farm land that has been in the family for over 100 years where he enjoyed working in the field. In his spare time he enjoyed attending antique car shows. Larry loved his family, especially his loyal Scottish Terrier Scoobie.
Larry is survived by his son Larry Thomas “Tom” Hinkelman Jr., of Leola, PA; daughter Joanne (Jim) Shedlock of Clymer, PA; and several grandchildren; sister’s Barbara Hinkelman- Dorgelo of Stevensville, MI, Joanne (John) Hinkelman-Kurland of Stevensville, MI and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
