Dorothea “Dot” Feeley Smith, 85, of St. Joseph, MI passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 Church St., St. Joseph, with Father Thomas McNally officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may visit Monday, September 29, 2014 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with prayers recited at 7:30 P.M. at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph. Memorial contributions may be made to Birthright of St. Joseph or Lake Michigan Catholic Schools. Those wishing to sign Dot’s guestbook may do so online at www.starks-menchinger.com. Dot was born on February 15, 1929 in Chicago, IL to John & Marian (Burke) Feeley. She was a graduate of St. Luke School & Trinity High School in River Forest, IL. She attended Rosary College now Dominican University in River Forest, IL where she received her Bachelors of Arts.  On June 30, 1951 she wed Dr.  William “Bert” Smith Jr. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in River Forest, IL. The Smith’s then moved to the Twin Cities in 1957 where Bert was a Doctor at Mercy- Memorial Hospital and Dot was an active volunteer for Birthright and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Dot loved tennis as an organizer & player; she was one of the original founders of the South Shore Racquet Club, and tennis coach for Lake Michigan Catholic High School. Dot was an avid gardener in her backyard and for the entrance to Chateau Condos where she lived.  Dot will also miss “Wintering at the Whitcomb”.  Dot Smith was a ray of sunshine to everyone she met. She is survived by her son William “Bert” (Debbie) Smith III of Atlanta, GA; brothers Don (Linda) Feeley of Elmhurst, IL, William (Mary Alice) Feeley of Hinsdale, IL, David (Lynn) Feeley of Chicago, IL; sisters in law Patricia Feeley and Joan Smith Oland. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Dr. William “Bert” Smith Jr., brothers James (Marybeth) Feeley, Robert (Patricia) Feeley, John Feeley and sister Marian (James) Minaghan.
