Edward Carl Swanson

Edward “Ed” C. Swanson, 75, of St. Joseph, MI passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at his home. Ed was born November 16, 1938 in Tustin, MI to Albert & Lillian (Carlson) Swanson. He graduated from Tustin High School in 1957. He then went to receive his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University in 1961. On September 21, 1963 he married Bonnie Holbert in Taylortown, PA.   Ed worked as an engineer at Union Carbide and finally at Michigan Consolidated Gas where he retired after 30 years. He was a member of the Engineering Society of Detroit, Fruitbelt Wood Carvers Club, and First Church of God in St. Joseph. Ed was an assistant Scout Master for Boy Scouts of America for 16 years in Big Rapids, MI. He enjoyed woodworking and was a talented wood carver entering his work and winning ribbons in numerous shows. Ed enjoyed fishing and boating and spending time with his family. Ed is survived by his wife Bonnie Swanson of St. Joseph; sons Edward “Tim” Swanson of Appleton, WI and Mark (Jennifer) Swanson of Stevensville, MI; grandchildren Lauren and Allison Swanson and Jamie, Alyssa, and Jack Swanson; sister-in-law Rosemary Swanson of Cheyboygan, MI. Edward was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jack Swanson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
