Marian P. Archer, 87, of St. Joseph, MI passed away Monday, October 6, 2014 at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie, LA, near the home of her youngest daughter.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 7 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph. Burial to follow at North Shore Memory Gardens. Friends may visit from noon until 1 p.m before the service. Those wishing to sign Marian’s guestbook may do so online at

Marian was born September 30, 1927 in Ionia, MI to Charles & Zellah (Hoople) Bailey. She graduated from Ionia High School in 1945 and briefly attended Michigan State University. For 50 years, she was married to Louis James Archer who she wed on July 1, 1951 in Lansing, MI.
Marian served as Corporation Secretary at Auto Specialties Manufacturing Company, where she worked for 30 years before retiring. On her way to reaching executive status, Marian was named Secretary of the Year by the Michigan Division of the National Secretaries Association in 1972. She was the first secretary from Western Michigan to win the title in the 13 years of competition. In addition, Marian was actively involved in numerous capacities with the Auto Specialties 25 Year Club. She was also an avid bowler until four years ago, served the women’s bowling association in many positions and traveled with her bowling friends for many years.
Marian is survived by her daughters Elizabeth (Mark) Baggett of Clarksville, TN, Lisa Archer of Holland and Lori (Donald) Archer-Smith of New Orleans, LA; grandchildren Jason (Brandi) and Eric Barnes, Coy Baggett, Cody (Danielle) and Courtney Wahl and Zoe Lundquist; as well as three great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Dottie Neller of Benton Harbor and several nieces and nephews
Marian was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Glen Barnes, her loving husband Louis, and her sister Doris Kohler.
