Frederick K. Knaak

Frederick K. “Fred” Knaak, 81, of St. Joseph, passed away, Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph. Private family services were held at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, St. Joseph.  Entombment followed at City Cemetery, St. Joseph, with military rites conducted by The North Berrien Military Rites Team.  Memorial donations may be made to First Church of God Endowment Fund or the Humane Society of SW Michigan.  Those wishing to sign Fred’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Fred was born December 21, 1932 in St. Joseph to Alvin & Frances (Schoenfelder) Knaak.  He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1951 and served his country during the Korean War in the US Army.  On October 18, 1952, he married the former Delores Schroeder in St. Joseph.  Fred was employed at several area companies, retiring from Mac Engineering in 1995.  He was a member of the First Church of God, enjoyed photography, German Marches and Polka Music, and playing the accordion & organ. Fred is survived by his wife Delores, his children-Robert (DeeAnn) Knaak of St. Joseph, Teresa McCurdy of Glenview, IL, Mark (Jean) Knaak of St. Joseph; six grandchildren-Kristin (Justin) Peachey, Karl Knaak, Katlin Knaak, Ashley (Matthew) Leger, Rachael Knaak & Tiffany Knaak; three great grandchildren-Addison & Savannah Peachey, & Claire Leger.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother William Knaak.
