Betty June Dasse

Betty June Dasse, 92, of Knoxville, TN, formerly of St. Joseph, passed away January 28, 2014 in Knoxville, TN. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home. Those wishing to share a memory of Betty online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Betty was born on May 4, 1921 in Hagerstown, IN, to Bert & Mamie (Paul) Monroe. She graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1936. In 1944 Betty and two friends decided to take a vacation. They took a map and put in a pin to discover they would be traveling to St. Joseph, MI. They took a train to Chicago, then the City of Chicago boat across the lake to St. Joseph. That evening, while having a burger at the Pine Pub, they met a group of service men home on furlough from WWII Germany. Betty was drawn to Lester Dasse, who had just that last night home, and he was also drawn to her. They wrote to each other through Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. They were married May 26, 1947 in Hagerstown, IN, and moved to St. Joseph. Betty is survived by daughter Judith Caulpetzer of Knoxville, TN; son Christopher (Beverly) Dasse of St. Joseph; grandchildren Laura (Eric) Wohler, Christopher (Nancy) Caulpetzer, Kenneth (Kim) Dasse, and Robert Dasse; great-grandchildren Katie (Adam) Phillips, Kristen Caulpetzer, Kevin Dasse and Dustin Dasse; and great-great-grandchild Keagan Phillips. Betty is preceded in death by her husband Lester Dasse, parents, infant brother Robert Monroe, sister Jeanne (Hubert) Stewart.
