Donald Peter Boerma

Donald Boerma, 86, died Thursday, June 5 at home. Born in South Haven, the son of Peter and Erma Boerma, he attended the University of Michigan and moved to Benton Harbor in 1954 to start Industrial Electric, later Electric Equipment. He served on the Board of Directors of local companies, Instracon, Production Controls, Dane Systems, and Die Cast Press; and Kalamazoo-based Kendall Electric, serving as its chairman for 25 years. He also served on the boards of Benton Harbor Congregational Church, Benton Harbor Schools, Salvation Army, Exchange Club, the YMCA, and the South Haven Public Schools Foundation. Survivors include his wife, Georgia; sons Peter and Richard; daughters Ann (Frank) Mianzo and Jane (Don) Carter; and seven grandchildren Joe, Pete and Sally Boerma, Hannah and Anthony Mianzo, and Will and Ben Carter.
