Douglas's Obituary

Douglas Allen Geyer, Sr., 79, of Edwardsburg, MI passed away at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville on Friday, May 16, 2014. Arrangements have been entrusted with Starks & Menchinger Chapel – 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI.   Douglas was born November 23, 1934 in Nappanee, IN to Harold and Helen (Hepler) Geyer. Douglas married Celia Rodelo on February 25, 1962 in Pasadena, CA. He was a 5th and 6th grade teacher, teaching in California, Indiana and Michigan for 15 years. He founded the family business in 1974 – Geyer Decorating, and his family still currently operates the business. Douglas was a devoted family man and loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an elder at Kingdom Jehovah’s Witnesses in Elkhart, IN.   Douglas is survived by his wife of 52 years – Celia; sons – Douglas (Rebekah) Geyer, Jr. of Niles, MI, Mark (Carolyn) Geyer of South Bend, IN, David (Shannon) Geyer of Elkhart, IN, Joseph (Cari) Geyer of Elkhart, IN, and Elliot (Samantha) Geyer of Mishawaka, IN; daughters – Marianne (Phillip) Kauffman of Tucson, AZ, Diane (Gene) Knowlton of North Liberty, IN and Lydia (Keith) Stemen of Elkhart, IN; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and 2 brothers – Dave (Sue) Geyer of Elkhart, IN and Dan (Janet) Geyer of Nappanee, IN. He is preceded in death by his parents – Harold and Helen Geyer.   A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held on Sat., May 24, 3:00pm, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 26807 US Hwy 20, South Bend, IN, with Elder Sam Fisher officiating.
