Elvera's Obituary

Elvera E. Freier, 95, of Stevensville, formerly of Benton Harbor, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at CrownPointe Senior Living, Stevensville. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2014  at Saron Lutheran Church, 510 Main St., St. Joseph with Rev. Joan Oleson officiating.  Burial will follow in Spring Run Cemetery.  Friends may visit from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2014 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials in her honor may be made to Saron Lutheran Church for the Benton Harbor Soup Kitchen, or to Great Lakes Caring Hospice.  Those wishing to sign Elvera’s Memory Book may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com Elvera was born June 1, 1918 in Benton Harbor to Frederick and Millie (Friesen) Freier.  She was an inspector for almost 40 years at Bendix (Formerly Nylen Products), retiring in 1981.  Elvera was a member of Saron Lutheran Church and was a Sunday School Treasurer for many years.  Her hobbies included reading, crocheting and tatting. She is survived by a brother Arthur (Norma) Freier of Barrington, IL; sister Loretta  “Susie” Turner of Dowagiac; sister-in-law Margaret “Jane” Freier of Stevensville and brother-in-law, Howard “Don” Chesher of Sun City, Arizona; and nine nephews and eight nieces; and several grand nephews and nieces. Elvera was preceded in death by her brothers Irving, Elmer, Eugene and Harold Freier ; and sisters Lillian Grahn and Ruth Chesher.
