Helen (Kirby) Cassidy, 88, of St. Joseph, passed away Sunday, May 04, 2014 at her home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 11:30 A.M. at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Harris Hoekwater officiating. Burial will follow at NorthShoreMemoryGardens in Coloma. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Helen was born March 15, 1926 in BentonHarbor to Floyd & Bertha (Thiede) Kirby. On November 27, 1947, she married Richard P. Cassidy in BentonHarbor. Helen was employed part-time for thirty-five years with Whirlpool Corporation. She was a member of St. Joseph First United Methodist Church. Helen enjoyed luncheons with the Whirlpool Ladies, meeting up with The Bard School Gang and playing Bingo at the St. Joseph-Lincoln Senior Center. Helen enjoyed and supported the South Shore Concert Band. Helen liked traveling, playing cards, the sunsets over Lake Michigan, and the time spent with her family and friends.
Helen is survived by two daughters; Judy (Bill) Hartzell of Mayville, MI and Jo Ann Ingraham of St. Joseph, MI; five grandchildren; Julie (Lars) Adolphson, Rebecca Hartzell, Bill (Amanda) Hartzell, Ben (Kellie) Ingraham, Carrie (Ken) Tobias; eight great-grandchildren-Lara, Jakob, Liam & Julien Adolphson, Lydia, & Thomas Hartzell, McKenna & Kerrigan Ingraham; four sisters;Dorothy Cross of Chesterton, IN, Maxine Mock of St. Joseph, Shirley Scott of Grant, MI, Joyce (David) Stewart of Siesta Keys, FL; two sisters-in-law-Frances Hammer of Watervliet, Betty Cassidy of St. Joseph; and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard in 2007, infant daughter Pauline in 1948, brother William Kirby and her son-in-law Howard Ingraham.
