Arlene's Obituary

Arlene Holub Malkin, 98, of Stevensville, passed away at Pine Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Thursday, April 3, 2014. Arrangements have been entrusted with Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services in St. Joseph, MI.   Arlene was born on March 25, 1916 in Chicago, IL to Otto and Clara (Swanson) Brodersen. She was a member of Saron Lutheran Church in St. Joseph; a member of VASA Lodge #534 of St. Joseph; and former owner-operator of Holub’s Upholstery in Benton Harbor.   Arlene is survived by her three daughters-Irma Gorman of St. Joseph, Lorraine (Lee) Mikesell of Stevensville and Diana (Doug) Thumm of Watervliet; two step-children-Elinore (Manny) Vasta of Carpenteria, CA and Ken Malkin of Bay City, MI; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband-James Holub(1966), and also her second husband-William Malkin(1993.)   A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 10:00 AM at Saron Lutheran Church in St. Joseph, with Pastor Joan Oleson officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Visitation is on Monday, April 7 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI.  Memorial contributions may be made to Saron Lutheran Church.
