Richard Hagenauer

Richard “Dick” G.  Hagenauer, 84, of Stevensville, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph with Rev. Gordon Barry officiating.  Friends may visit Friday, April 18 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A private family burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Kalamazoo at a later date.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Those wishing to sign Dick’s guestbook may do so online at www.starks-menchinger.com. Dick was born April 3, 1930 in Forest Park, Illinois to Gust & Caroline (Zapfel) Hagenauer. He was a 1949 graduate of Proviso East High School. He attended Cornell University where he received his Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering in 1953. He went on to further his education at the University of Chicago receiving his MBA in 1960. Dick proudly served his country as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force in the Korean War. On December 14, 1963, he wed Marian Pitman in Kalamazoo. Dick worked at Whirlpool, while there he developed 5 patents, was the manager of planning projects and lastly the manager of advanced and new products before retiring after 37 years. He was a member of the Whirlpool Management Club. In his spare time he enjoyed reading and completing crossword puzzles. Dick played football at Cornell University. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan and loved to watch football, no matter who was playing. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Marian Hagenauer; son David (Heather) Hagenauer of DeWitt, MI; daughters Catherine Cremin of Holland, MI and Lisa (Scott) Ward of Caledonia, MI; grandchildren Hannah, Sarah, Lilli, Brynn and John; brother-in-law Richard Cluever of LaGrange Park, IL;  sister-in-law Gerrie (Robert) DeHaan of Panora, Iowa;  and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Violet Cluever.
