Helen Warren, 98, of St. Joseph, MI passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Pine Ridge Nursing Center in Stevensville.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 12 , 2014 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church 404 East Glenlord Road St. Joseph with Pastor Noah Headrick officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday beginning at 9:00 A.M. Memorials can be made to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church or Michigan Lutheran High School. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Services, St. Joseph, MI. Helen was born June 11, 1915 in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Canada to parents Julius and Emma (Braitenbach) Schiman.
She moved to the United States with her family when she was 6 years old and settled in Benton Harbor, growing up on the east end of the city.
She married Wallace “Joe” Warren in Benton Harbor at St. Matthews Lutheran Church on June 29, 1935, and became a step-mother to his daughter Cynthia, and together became parents to children Robert, Judith and Wallace Warren Jr.
Helen loved to travel and visited all fifty states and Europe, and spent winters in Weslaco, Texas with her husband, friends and family members for many years. She was an excellent seamstress and quilter, and deeply devoted and faithful to family members and friends, always willing to help wherever a need existed. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of St. Joseph since its inception and was a long time member of the Ladies of Grace and WELS Lutheran OWLS organizations.
She is survived by her son Robert (Linda) Warren of Clearwater, Florida, her daughter Judith Tahaney of St. Joseph, and daughter in law Wendy Warren of St. Joseph , as well as by 20 grandchildren, 50 great- grandchildren, 28 great-great grandchildren and 3 great-great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe in November 1998, her son Wallace Warren Jr. in April 2007 ,a step-daughter, Cyndi Bacquet in April of 2013, son-in-law Robert Tahaney in February 2013 and grand-daughter Vicky Walston in January of 2012. She was also preceded in death by siblings William Schiman, Daniel Schiman, Charles Schiman, Gordon Schiman, Vi Driscoll, Annie Rogalski and Alma Siders.
