Rynold “Ron” Collins, 45, of Benton Harbor passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville.
Celebration of Home Going Services will be held 11:30 A.M. Friday, February 28 at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 1105 E. Main St. Benton Harbor where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Ron was born January 7, 1969 in Gary, Indiana to Oscar & Shirley (Taylor) Collins. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1987. Ron was formerly employed at Modar Inc. of Benton Harbor, Shawnee Specialties in Eau Claire, at Walmart in Benton Harbor, as well as operating his own lawn care and landscaping business. On July 5, 2003, he married the former Josephine Angela Lunzy in Benton Harbor. He was often visited by and under the leadership of Pastor Laurie Hartzell of First Presbyterian Church in Benton Harbor and a member of the ALS Support Group. Ron confessed his life to Christ along his journey with ALS. He loved children and always wanted to set a good example and give advice to help them in their lives.
Ron is survived by his wife Angela; his children-Ruben Hardy of Ann Arbor, Sharmone, Mercedes, Lanyke & Malik Ellis, Rynold Collins, II & stepson Lynn Bland, III-all of Benton Harbor; three grandchildren-Nasir & Cincere Allen & Jhernee Neal; his mother Shirley Collins of Benton Harbor, his father Oscar (Annie Mae) Collins of Benton Harbor; siblings-Oscar Collins, Jr, Reginald (Leisa) Collins, Cedric Osby, Debrah Ann Collins, Marcia Collins, Taranita Meridy & Corvetta Meridy-all of Benton Harbor, Gregory (Linda) Collins of Kalamazoo, Stacey (Carmen) Collins of South Bend, Dinah (Al) Collins-Bledsoe of Indianapolis; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins & friends. Ron was preceded in death by a brother Robert Bernard Collins, paternal grandparents-Robert Collins & Annie Mae Ross, maternal grandparents-Welmon Taylor, Sr. & Cornelia Dickerson-Taylor, and a granddaughter Lariah Griffin.
