Benjamin “Ben” Koebel, 84, a lifelong Royalton Township Farmer passed away Friday, February 14, 2014 at his home. Ben born July 26, 1929 on the family farm to William and Mabel (Dahring) Koebel a Prominent Royalton Township farm family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:30 A.M. Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Stevensville United Methodist Church, 5506 Ridge Rd., Stevensville with Pastor Gordon Barry officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Run Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may visit from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Monday, February 17, 2014 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Stevensville United Methodist Church. On November 9, 1957 Ben married Jeanne Meachum at the First Methodist Church in Hartford, MI. Ben owned and operated his family farm until retirement. Ben’s heart was always with his family, his farming, and the newest and latest tractors, combines, and implements. Ben harvested many acres of crops for area farmers doing custom work in his earlier years. He was a member of the Stevensville United Methodist Church, Welch National Co-op, Farm Bureau, and was a Berrien County A.S.C. committee rep for Royalton farmers. Over the years Ben enjoyed dancing- especially the polka, bowling, getting together with friends, dining out, and reading farm news and magazines.
Ben is survived by his wife Jeanne Koebel of Berrien Springs; daughter Pamela (Michael) Lawrick of Berrien Springs; son Mark (Jami) Koebel of Berrien Springs; grandchildren Katelyn M. Koebel and Matthew M. Koebel; sister-in-law Marjorie Simmons of Yorba Linda, CA; brother-in-law Dr. H. J. (Patsy) Meachum of Tuscon, AZ; Sister-in-law Lorraine Brunke of Bridgman; and many nieces, nephews and friends whom he thought a lot of. Ben was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Robert A. Koebel, James A. Koebel, Lillian M. Koebel and Thelma J. Priefer and special nephew James L. Koebel.
