Judith's Obituary

Judith Rose (Teachout) Miller passed away at home on February 7, 2014, after a brief illness. We rejoice that she is now at home with her Lord and Savior. Judy was born December 15, 1938, in St. Joseph, MI, to John and Ann Teachout, owners of Teachout Bakery in St. Joseph. She graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1956 as class salutatorian, and then worked as a bookkeeper at Peoples State Bank. There she met the love of her life, Edward L. Miller, and they were married April 18, 1959. Together they raised four children. Following many years as a devoted homemaker, Judy worked at Imperial Printing Company from 1982-2000 working her way up to supervisor. After retiring, Judy gave generously of her time to her church community in many ways, including participating in Bible studies and rosary group, and serving as an auxiliary leader, greeter, and funeral luncheon committee member. Ed and Judy took many wonderful trips together, and could often be found gardening and working crossword puzzles together, and spending time with family. Judy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Edward L. Miller; children: Denise (Kevin) Smiley of Interlochen, MI, Matthew (Lori) Miller of St. Joseph, John Miller of St. Joseph, and Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Wolf of St. Joseph; brother: John Teachout Jr. of St. Joseph; life-long friend, Julie Petzke; grandchildren: Lynda (Miller) Vandenberg, Elizabeth (Miller) Sekellick, Karen Smiley-Arreguin, Steven Smiley, Joshua Smiley, Caleb Smiley, Mark Wolf, Laura Wolf, Beth Johnston, Katie (Johnston) Grumbir, and Kelly Johnston; and four beautiful great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ann Teachout; brother, Francis Teachout; sister-in-law, Annette Teachout; and grandchildren, Jess Patrick Miller and Kara Ann Miller. Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph from 5:00–7:00 PM, preceded by the saying of the rosary at 4:30 pm. A Mass of Christion Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 14, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 Church St., St. Joseph. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
