Virginia Ida Deegan

Virginia I. (Ober) Deegan, 98, of Stevensville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Crownpointe Residences in Stevensville. Virginia was born on March 24, 1915 to Augusta & Charles Ober in St. Louis, MO. Her parents passed away at an early age and she joined her aunt and uncle Lola & Bill Richter in Chicago, IL at the age of 16. She started her career in the retail clothing business shortly thereafter, eventually becoming a women’s fashion buyer at Maurice L. Rothchild’s followed by Hand-Moor and May Son’s. At an age where most people are thinking or retirement Virginia joined her close friend Vivian Clarke’s clothing company as an office manager until moving to St. Joseph are at the age of 82. Virginia’s sense of style and fashion and a love of fine cuisine was always apparent, right up to her last days, as was her fierce independence and dry sense of humor, which was dearly loved by her family, friends and staff at CrownPointe. Virginia appreciated the wonderful care she received while at CrownPointe and from Hospice at Home. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Delores Ober. Virginia is survived by her son Terry (Kathy) Deegan of St. Joseph, her beloved grandchildren Laura (William) Coffman of St. Joseph, MI, Jennifer Mason of Ft. Myers, FL, Thomas (Stephanie) Deegan and Kevin Deegan both of St. Joseph, MI. Virginia was also lovingly proud of six great grandchildren Taylor and Emily Coffman, Colin and Ryan Mason and Payton and MacKenzie Deegan. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, February 1, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 Church St, St. Joseph with Father Tom McNally officiating. Friends may visit from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at Home.
