Vernon Wolter

Vernon Wolter, 78, of Benton Harbor, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday, January 24, 2014 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12:00 P.M. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hanson Hospice Center. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1953 and Ferris State College with a degree in ammonia refrigeration. On February 16, 1957 he married Jo Ann Berley in Benton Harbor, MI. Vernon was the Owner of Fisher Refrigeration in South Bend, IN for many years. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Vernon is survived by his wife Jo Ann Wolter of Benton Harbor, son Steven Wolter of St. Joseph; daughter Susanne (Steve) Skibbe of Benton Harbor; seven grandchildren Ryan, Melissa, Kayla, Aaron, Jamie, Jennifer and Jodi; three great grandchildren Kassidy, Nathan and Jennysen; brother Gilbert (Sharon) Wolter of Saginaw; and many nieces and nephews. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, son William Wolter and brother Marvin Wolter.
