Betty L. Henderson, 80, of Stevensville, MI passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at her home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 9:00 A.M. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph, with Reverend Timothy Pietrogallo officiating. Burial to follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery in Stevensville. Friends may visit from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Friday, January 24, 2014 at the funeral home. Betty was born June 28, 1933 in Streetsboro, OH to William Spath & Bertha Bleckert. On October 5, 1952 she married Donald Henderson in Hudson, OH. Donald was in the Air Force, and the Henderson family had relocated several times over the years including to Germany for 3 years. The family came to Stevensville, MI in 1972. Betty worked as a cashier at several local grocery stores, lastly at D & W Grocery Store in Stevensville where she later retired. Betty enjoyed spending the winters in Florida and playing her weekly Tuesday dominoes with her friends where she was known as the “domino queen.” She enjoyed playing cards, dominos, camping and spending time with her family and friends.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 61 years Donald Henderson; her loving children Jeff Henderson of St. Joseph, Cindy Tefs of Benton Harbor, Chris (Mary Beth) Henderson of Niles and Dave (Susan) Henderson of Chesterland, OH; grandchildren Susan, Dustin (Sarah), Jeffrey (Christina), Bill and Heather (Antwon); great grandchildren Jesicca, Tyler, Ayralynn, Taylor “T.J.”, Auden, Cole, Kros, Ashton and Lleyton and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Willaim Spath, Bertha (Bleckert) Zinkon, stepfather Earl Zinkon, brothers Herbert (Dorothy) Spath, Ralph Spath and sister Viola (Arthur) Strouse.
