Jake's Obituary

Jake K. Hall, 97, of Benton Harbor passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Lakeland Continuing Care, St. Joseph, MI. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12:00 P.M Saturday, January 4, 2013 at Second Baptist Church, 600 Donald Adkins Rd., Benton Harbor, with Pastor Rev. Kenneth Gavin officiating. Burial to follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Friends may visit from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Second Baptist Church. Those wishing to sign Jake’s guestbook and view the full obituary may do so online at www.starks-menchinger.com. Jake was born January 18, 1916 in Brundidge, AL to Jeff & Louiza (Hall) Harris. He was the oldest of five children. At a young age his grandparents, Arter & Lourenia Hall adopted Jake and his siblings and raised them in Brundidge, AL. Christmas day 1938 Jake wed Clemmie Neal in Troy, AL. Together they had six children and in 1946 moved the Hall family to Benton Harbor, MI. Jake worked at Auto Specialties in Benton Harbor as a Drill Press Operator for 30 years before his retirement. On August 02, 1978 he wed Catherine Johnson in Benton Harbor. Catherine’s eight children were added to the Hall family and Jake accepted them as his own. They have had a very influential role in Jakes life over the years. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Benton Harbor where he was active in many church activities. Jake loved to fish and especially sing. Jake is survived by his wife Catherine of 30 years. Eight children Adell (Amelia) Hall of Goldborgh, NC, Maedell (Ben) Monroe of Orangeburg, SC, Jack (Effie) Hall of Grand Ledge, MI, John (Dale) Hall of Detroit, MI Frances “Fran” (Alfred) Hamilton of Detroit, MI Helen (Willie) Lacy of Benton Harbor, MI Clemmie (Ann) Hall of Covington, GA and Fannie (Donald) Alston of Covington, GA; 8 stepchildren 42 grandchildren; 84 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchilren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Arter and Lourenia Hall, his loving wife Clemmie on April 15, 2007, his sister Essie Bell Hall, and brothers Hosea Hall, Nead Hall and R.J. Hall.
