Alan Spilger, 60, of Baroda, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 in Baroda.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:30 A.M. Friday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Brad Ross officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Baroda. Alan was born October 12, 1953 in South Bend, Indiana to William P. & Viva E. (Christy) Spilger. He attended Lakeshore High School-Class of 1972. Alan was employed for many years at Frank Pastrick Chevrolet in Benton Harbor. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Baroda, Sons of The American Legion in Baroda, and the National Rifle Association. Alan’s passion in life was cars. He was a fan of the National Hot Rod Association, enjoyed working on cars, had built several dragsters over the years and enjoyed racing them at Osceola Drag Strip in Osceola, Indiana.
Alan is survived by his father William Spilger of Baroda; his brother Steven (Wai Mun) Spilger of Granger, IN; his sister Lori (Jeffrey) Yates of Sutton, MA; three nieces-Zoe Yates, Alyson & Andreana Spilger; two close friends-Lance Cortson of St. Joseph & Jim Small of Three Oaks, MI; and other friends too numerous to mention. He was preceded in death by his mother Viva Spilger on November 1, 2011.
