Pastor Michael King, 54, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Niles Avenue Baptist Church, 1301 Niles Ave., St. Joseph with Rev. Dwaine Chapdelaine officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. Friends may visit from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday, December 20, 2013 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to the King Family. Pastor Michael King was born in Brockton, Massachusetts to John & Carol Ann (Kersey) King. Michael served his country in the United States Army as a Postal Inspector. On June 16, 2007 he married Shirley Teter in Kalamazoo, MI. Michael was the Pastor of Niles Avenue Baptist Church in St. Joseph where he loved preaching the word of God. He also worked for Chase bank as a Mortgage Banker in St. Joseph, Stevensville and Benton Harbor locations. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, taking pictures of the sunset while on his walks on the bluff with his wife Shirley. He coached rocket football in Kalamazoo for many years. He also enjoyed working out with all of his friends at the Renaissance Athletic Club.
Pastor Michael King is survived by his parents John King & Carol Ann King; wife Shirley King; children Charday Lashell King, Ryan King, Joshua (Samantha) Root, Jacob (Kacie) Root, and Jared (Jennifer) Root; eleven grandchildren Keaton Root, Kayden Root, Linkin Root, Drew Lamb, Kassidee Root, Lydia Root, Malasia King, Keyauni King, Jequisha, Cenoy, & Kiara Hamilton; siblings Michelle (Raymond) Black, Darin King, Lisa Arinwine, and Tim (Joyce) Dixon; nieces and nephews Derek, Jazmyn, & Aaron King, Jeremy, Tishonda, Doshekia (Marcus), Ashely, Shadia, and Keilola.
