Lois's Obituary
Lois Easton-Hand, 92, of Dowagiac, passed away, Friday, November 29, 2013 at Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:30 A.M. Wednesday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph, with Rev. David Stout & Rev. Larry Easton officiating. Private burial will take place at North Shore Memory Gardens. Lois was born Lois Helen Hamilton, June 11, 1921 in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Her Parents, both deceased were Jessie and Charles Hamilton. She had 2 siblings Dale Hamilton of Elizabethton, Tennessee and Phyllis Martin of Benton Harbor, Both of whom are deceased. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1939 and attended Benton Harbor Business College for 2 Years.
In 1943 she married Glenn Dean Easton of Eau Claire and the couple took up residence in Benton Harbor. During their 29 year marriage they had 4 children, Larry Gene (Sandy) Easton, Ronald Glenn (Carole) Easton, Dale Frederick (Cathy) Easton, and Lola Leigh (John) Horton.
10 years after Glenn’s death in 1972 she married Roy Hand and the couple took up residence in Lake Wales, Florida in the winter and Diamond Lake near Cassopolis in the summer. In 2005 they moved to Niles, Michigan and after Roy’s death she moved to Dowagiac, Michigan.
She held several jobs outside the home including Remington Rand, Sears, and Mercy Hospital from which she retired in 1982. Her greatest love was being a homemaker and raising her children. She and Glenn were very involved at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and had many stories about friends and church camp. She was a great cook and loved baking, you could always depend on a fine meal being served at her table. She also enjoyed a good story, playing cards and watching her beloved Cubs. She was a woman of strong character, moral fiber and forthright opinion. She will be missed by her family and those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her children, 10 Grand Children and 13 Great Grand Children.
