Betty Hettig Longpre

Betty Hettig Longpre, 84, of St. Joseph, MI, entered into heaven on Nov. 9, to be with her Lord. Arrangements have been entrusted with Betty was born June 5, 1929 in Danville, IL, to Steve and Adrian (Colombo) Michael. In 1942 she married Arthur Hettig, who preceded her in death in 1985. She is survived by her two children Larry (Karen) Hettig of St. Joseph and Lisa (Steve) Hartnett of Rockford, MI; also five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. In 1989 she married Thomas Gregory Longpre, who preceded her in death in 2006. She is also survived by five step-children, Greg (Inge) Longpre of Stevensville, MI, Sandi Hopkins of Benton Harbor, MI, Lynn (Andy) Rudell of Benton Harbor, MI, Troy (Mary Ann) Longpre of Mt. Prospect, IL, and Theresa Meador of Canton, MI; eight step grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren. Betty is also survived by two sisters, Lucille (Doug) King of St. Joseph, MI and Judy (Jim) Bungard of Stevensville, MI; and a brother, Tony Michael of Phoenix, AZ. She is also preceded in death by a brother, Steve Michael, Jr. Betty enjoyed going with her sister Ceil and brother-in-law Doug on Friday’s to Roxy’s and then to the casino. She also enjoyed the overnight slumber parties with her sister Judy, when her husband Jim was out of town on business. But, above all, she enjoyed spending time with, taking care of, and giving to those she loved. She will be greatly missed by all that loved her. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 11:00AM, at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Ronald Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Visitation is on Monday from 5:00-7:00pm at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI.
