Eleanor Schlichter, 87, of St. Joseph, MI passed away Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.
A Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 A.M. (Central Time) Friday, November 22, 2013 at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 4440 W 83rd St. Chicago, IL. Burial to follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Evergreen Park, IL. Family and friends may visit from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Southwest Michigan. Eleanor was born June 12, 1926 in Chicago, IL to John & Mary (Grady) Riedle. On July 19, 1952 she married William F. Schlichter in Chicago, IL. Eleanor worked as secretary part time throughout her life, but primarily kept a busy schedule caring for her home and family. She was a member of St. Bede the Venerable Church in Chicago, where she and her husband were founding members. She participated in church activities such as the Ministry of Praise. Eleanor was a Telephone Pioneer. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
Since moving to the Whitcomb Towers with her husband from Chicago, she fell in love with St. Joseph and made many friends. She especially enjoyed the summer band concerts and the beautiful Christmas decorations on the bluff.
She is survived by her son Matthew (Amy) Schlichter of Stevensville, daughter Ariel Valyo D.V.M. of Chicago, IL, grandson William, and many nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband William on March 16, 2011 and siblings; Mary Riedle, Stephen Riedle, John “Jack” Riedle, Dorothy Hector, Frances “Frank” Riedle, Elizabeth “Betty” Jurgensen and Margaret “Peggy” Riedle.
