Ira's Obituary

Ira L. Schwyn, 86, of St. Joseph, MI passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Caretel Inns in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at the American Legion in Coloma,351 E St Joseph St, Coloma, Sunday, October 6, 2013 from 3-6 P.M. Ira was born October 29, 1926 in Elkhart, IN to William “Bill” & Ruth (Bickel) Schwyn. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served in World War II. Upon returning from the war Ira started working as a union plaster worker. He was a member of the Brick Layers Union and a lifetime member of the American Legion in Coloma. Ira was an avid fisherman, he loved spending time on Rush Lake. In his spare time he enjoyed tending to his large yard and garden, playing dominos, and listening to music. He loved singing and is now singing in the choir in heaven. Ira is survived by his daughters Lori Struble of St. Joseph, Shelly Schwyn of Chicago, IL, Katy Schwyn of Chicago, IL and Carla LaCounte of Elkhart, IN; son Jeffery (Tracey) Schwyn of Bellevue,WA; grandchildren Jessica (Dan) Smith of St. Joseph, Blair Struble of Boston, MA and Alexander Struble of Coloma; and one great grandchild Journey and long time companion Corinne King. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Betty Schwyn, and step-daughter Linda.
