Lucy, as she was known to her friends and family, was born June 9, 1923 in Serakoweck, Poland to Johann & Berta Herter. She met her husband, and life partner, Leo, on a train from Berlin in 1941. It was love at first site for both of them. Their courtship spanned WWII until they married on August 22, 1947. After the birth of 3 children, Lucy and family immigrated to the USA in April 1956 and were proud to become citizens seven years later. Lucy loved spending time with her family and her church family. She had a gift of making people feel special and welcome. She used this gift in her service to God by visiting the sick and shut-ins, and by inviting, among others, strangers and people without family into her home. All who entered Lucy’s home felt loved and welcomed. Lucy loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and is with him forever, once again healthy and pain free.
Lucy is survived by her husband of 66 years, Leonhard; a son Fred (Anita) Grams of St. Joseph; two daughters Hella Grams of Stevensville, and Ingrid (David) Pratt of Baroda; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; with extended family adding three more grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and her dog Rusty. She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings.
Lucy will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
