Ewald's Obituary

Ewald “Ace” Stubelt, 93, formerly of Benton Harbor, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Manor Care Nursing Home in Anderson, Indiana. Mr. Stubelt was born in Bashaw, Alberta Canada on January 31, 1920 to Amalia and Ernest Stubelt. They came to Michigan to farm when he was three years old. As a child and as a young man he loved softball and became an “Ace Pitcher”. He soon was given the nickname “Ace” which stayed with him the rest of his life. Ace retired from Whirlpool after working there approximately 30 years. He also farmed for a while in Dowagiac and built several houses in the Milburg area. He is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Dunnington (husband Asa), one granddaughter Abra Myers (husband David), and one grandson Travis Brant (wife Amy), and four great-grandchildren, Owen Myers, Jenna, Mia and Rilee Brant. In 1942 he married Reva Price. She and their son Robert both preceded him in death. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2013 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church on the corner of Colfax and Kline in Benton Harbor. Pastor George Ferch from Carmel, Indiana will be officiating. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Services in St. Joseph. Burial will take place at North Shore Memory Gardens, Hager Shores.
