Richard William Mattner, 81, of Eau Claire, passed away in his home, Monday, August 19, 2013. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 22, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Eternal will take place at 10 a.m., with a visitation one hour prior to the service, on Friday, August 23, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church, 6605 Pipestone Rd., Eau Claire, with Pastor James Bartz officiating. Burial will follow at Shanghai Cemetery in Eau Claire. Military rites will be conducted by North Berrien Military Rites Team. Memorials may be made to Future Farmers of America and Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. Those wishing to leave a condolence online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Richard was born September 5, 1931, in Benton Township to Adolph & Jennie (Kizzitski) Mattner. On August 16, 1952, he married Darlene (Koebel) Mattner in Eau Claire. His passion was farming; he owned and operated his own farm for many years. Richard also enjoyed snowmobiles, going to the casino, and taking care of his family, whom he loved dearly. Richard is survived by his wife, Darlene Mattner, his children, Kevin (Sherrie) Mattner, of Spring City, TN; Denita (Mattner) Luttrell, of Eau Claire, MI; his grandchildren, Peter (Nancy) Mattner, Kellie (Greg) Pugh, Autumn Mattner, Melanie (Marc) Rettig, Melissa Luttrell, his great grandchildren, Brianna Pugh, Kayleigh Pugh, Colt Mattner, and Luke Rettig, and his two sisters, Clara Leitz & Kathleen Rosentrater. He was preceded in death by his son Jeffery Mattner, his parents Adolph & Jennie Mattner, his brothers & sisters Leonard, Lillian, Lucille, Arthur, and Robert.
