Leon W. Gaul, 91, of Stevensville, MI passed away Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Golden Age Manor in Stevensville, MI.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2013 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4333 Cleveland Ave., Stevensville with Pastor Martin Measel officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery. Friends may visit from 2:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Leon was born August 1, 1922 in Baroda, MI to Clarence & Anna (Keufus) Gaul. He graduated from Baroda High School in 1940 and then attended trade school in Detroit to become a machinist. Leon served his country in the United States Army Air Corp and proudly served his country from 1944 until 1946. On Valentine’s Day in 1948 he married Ida Jeske. Leon worked as a Machinist for 32 years. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Stevensville. Leon had a great talent for fixing and making parts for cars. In his spare time he enjoyed farming grapes, dewberries and raspberries. Leon never knew a stranger and will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his love for children.
Leon is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ida Gaul of Stevensville; sons Greg (Andrea) Gaul of St. Joseph, MI and Gary Gaul of Naperville, IL; grandson Andrew Gaul; brother Franklin (Delores) Gaul of Eau Claire, MI; “adopted” son Ken and many nieces, nephews and adopted grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Loraine Reum.
