Ethan's Obituary

Ethan Brandt, 85, of St. Joseph, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of Life will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday at The Chapel-an Evangelical Free Church, 4250 Washington Ave., St. Joseph, with Rev. Philip Bubar officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to The Chapel or Hospice at Home. Those wishing to sign Ethan’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Ethan was born August 7, 1928 in Puchawa, Poland to Johann and Julianna (Reiter) Brandt. In 1940 he moved with his family to Germany, immigrated to the United States in 1950, and became a citizen of the United States of America in 1955, of which he was very proud. Ethan worked five years for Whirlpool and then in 1956 started his own business as a building contractor, retiring in 1991. Ethan loved spending time with his family, water skiing, fishing, and family vacations. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and is now with Him forever. Ethan is survived by his wife Erna of sixty-two years; and by three sons and two daughters-Harry (Shirley) Brandt of Shoreview, MN, Herbert (Linda) Brandt, Richard (Janice) Brandt, Irma (Timothy) Jewell, all of St. Joseph, and Margrit (Dominic) Ciaravino of Portage, MI; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sisters-Erna Jobs of Germany and Lilli Zielke of St. Joseph. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Adina Muenzer and his brother Walter Brandt. He will be missed by his family and many friends.
