Alex's Obituary

Alex Anthony Mandarino, born April 15, 2008, heroically battled cancer for more than two years finding his ultimate cure in Heaven on July 8, 2013. Alex left the world as he arrived, peaceful and in his mother’s arms. Alex was a strong and brave little boy who never complained of the horrible ordeal he fought through. Alex was a bright child, a master of Legos and apps on the iPad. He enjoyed being home with his family, building towers with blocks and playing video games. Alex was passionate about Star Wars, loved the water and feeding ducks. He was taken much too soon from all of us and we will never forget his beautiful smile. Alex will be deeply missed by his devoted family: precious son of Katie and Tony Mandarino, loving brother of his sister Bella, cherished grandson of Susan and John Ludwig and Elizabeth and James Mandarino and great grandson of Rose Roberts. He was the cousin and nephew to many and a friend to all. The family asks that memorial gifts be given to the Neuroblastoma and Medulloblastoma Translational Research Consortium (NMTRC), 100 Michigan Ave. NE – MC 272, Grand Rapids, MI 49503 or online at www.nmtrc.org/donate. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM; with prayer services at 7:30 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at St. John Catholic Church, 600 Columbus, Benton Harbor; officiated by Father William Jacobs. Friends wishing to send condolences may do so at the guestbook at www.starks-menchinger.com.
