Dorothy Lee “Dottie” Grumbine, 96, of St. Joseph, died Friday night June 28 2013 at her home.
Visitation will be held Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, Michigan. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 Tuesday at the First Congregational Church, 2001 Niles Ave, St. Joseph; officiated by Rev. Dr. Robert Braman; with private family burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Sonya Ansari Autism Learning Center of Southwest Michigan; please make checks to Logan Center–Southwest Michigan, 2001 Niles Ave, St. Joseph, MI 49085. Dottie was born on December 26, 1916 in Westminster, Maryland to Carl and Anna (Gehr) Twigg. In 1935 following high School she attended Western Maryland College for two years, then entered Church Home Hospital, affiliated with John Hopkins and graduated with a R.N. in 1938. Dottie moved to New York City and specialized in nursing at Cornell Medical Center.
On June 23, 1939 she married Walter Klee Grumbine in Westminster, Maryland.
Dottie is a member of the first Congregational Church and was the first woman on the Board of Trustees. She also served on the Alter Guild for 35 Years and was a member of the P.E.O. sisterhood. Dottie also served 17 years as chairman of the volunteer nurses’ aid for American Red Cross.
Dottie is survived by daughter Virginia (Frank) Brock of Lathrup Village, MI; two sons Thomas (Janet) Grumbine of Wyoming, MI and David (Sally) Grumbine of St. Joseph; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother Carl Twigg of Westminster, MD; sister Mary Ada Welliver of Sykesville, MD.
Dottie is preceded in death by her husband W. Klee Grumbine and a daughter Linda Lee Grumbine; brother Denton Twigg and a sister Virgina Twigg
