Warren E. Sweet

Warren Elliot Sweet of Benton Harbor, formerly of Hartford, died at the age of 79 on April 15, 2013 at Orchard Grove Extended Care Center in Benton Harbor. Celebration of Life Services will be held 11:30 A.M. Friday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with military rites conducted by the North Berrien Military Rites Team. Cremation will follow the service. Friends may visit from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Southwest Michigan. (Brooks) Sweet, Sr. He played baseball & basketball at Hartford High School, where he graduated in 1953. Warren joined the US Army and served two years stationed in Korea. On February 18, 1956, he married the former Barbara Marceau, recently celebrating 57 years of marriage. Warren was employed at Benton Harbor Engineering until they closed at which time he gained employment at Mac Engineering, from where he retired. He loved sports, especially basketball, baseball, football and bowling. His favorite athletes were Larry Bird of the Boston Celtics and baseball player Ted Williams, after whom he named one of his sons. Warren was a huge Notre Dame Football fan and raised all of his children to be the same. Warren is survived by his wife Barbara; his brother David Sweet, Jr. of Hartford; five sons-Chris, John, Keith,Todd, & Ted Sweet, all of Benton Harbor; his daughter Candy Sweet of Benton Harbor; a step-son Rick Davis of Benton Harbor; seven grandchildren-Ashley (Zack) Lesher, Kyle Sweet, Elliot Danneffel, Morgan Sweet, Thaiden Sweet, & Jackson Sweet; a step-grandson Aaron Davis; and two great-grandchildren-Allie & Ryan Lesher; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
