Jack Charleston

Jack Charleston, 78, of Stevensville, MI passed away June 3, 2013 at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:30 A.M. Friday, June 7, 2013 at Zion United Church of Christ, 9100 Church St., Baroda with Rev. Dr. Christopher Noffke officiating. Burial will take place at Hickory Bluff at a later date. Friends may visit from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Thursday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Zion United Church of Christ, American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association. Those wishing to share a memory of Jack online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Jack was born December 11, 1934 in Benton Harbor, MI to Wilbur & Twyla (Roosevelt) Charleston. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School. On April 26, 1952 he married Esther Birr in St. Joseph. Jack worked as a Plant Superintendent for Grand Transformer in Grand Haven, MI. He also worked for Michigan Fruit Canners and Heath Company. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, spending time with his family and was an avid University of Michigan fan. Jack is survived by his wife Esther of Stevensville; children Jack (Vanessa) Charleston of Grand Rapids, Jill (Richard) Murphy of St. Joseph, Bonnie (Richard) Rimpel of Stevensville and Jeffery (Beverly) Charleston of Benton Harbor; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; siblings Wilbur Charleston, Patricia (Ronald) Neumann, James (Michelle) Charleston, and Mary (Richard) Fester. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Charleston.
