Garrett Wittmann

Gary Wittmann, 57, of Stevensville, MI passed peacefully—with his children by his side and in his heart—Saturday, April 20, 2013. He was greeted by family and friends who preceded him in death; parents Albert Wittmann and Janis Buckley and brothers Mark Wittmann and Daniel Wittmann. Gary owned and operated Wittmann Wood Floors for 37 years. He was a hard-working family man and was best known for his kindness and generosity; the love in his heart will continue to be felt by so many. His life was with his children, his proudest achievement. He spoke of traveling and home, politics and nature. His soul was filled with music, sports, cooking, the arts and great books. He, himself was an artist, a crafter, a woodworker—choosing to gift his work rather than sell it. Born September 25, 1955 in St. Joseph, MI, and coached by his father, Gary spent his childhood playing baseball with his brothers—his favorite pastime—only to grow as a coach to his own children. Wrigley Field was his favorite place on earth. He loved to golf and bowl. He had a larger-than-life smile and an infectious laugh. Father. Teacher. Friend. Hero. “Hello again, everybody. It’s a bee-yooo-tiful day for baseball.” -Harry Caray Garrett is survived by his three children, Erika (Chris) Eakin of Laingsburg, MI, Dyan Wittmann of Eugene, OR and Matthew Wittmann of Stevensville, MI; grandson Logan Eakin; brothers Greg (Linda) Wittmann of Grand Ledge, MI, Joe (Carol) Dyrcz Of Tyner, IN and sister Cooky (Craig) Dyrcz-Flowers of St. Joseph.
