Elsie Alice Greening, 100, of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Lakeland Continuing Care, St. Joseph, MI.
A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church at the corner of Church and Market streets, St. Joseph, MI 49085 at 11 A.M Monday, June, 10, 2013, with Pastor Michael J. Roth officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Visitation will be held 2 to 4 P.M. Sunday, June, 9, 2013, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid of Trinity Lutheran Church, or to the St. Joseph Lincoln Senior Center. Elsie was born July 14, 1912, in Biggar, Saskatchewan, Canada to Bernard & Alvina (Reichwald) Bomke. On June 20, 1931, she married Elmer Herman Greening Sr., at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Joseph. She was employed at VM Corporation in Benton Harbor for over twenty-two years. Elsie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church as well as the Ladies Aid for the church.
Elsie is survived by her two sons Elmer Richard Greening of St. Joseph, MI; DeWayne Norman Greening of St. Joseph, MI; one daughter, Marilyn Elaine (John) Robbins, of Benton Harbor, MI, and seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Otto Bernard & Alvina (Reichwald) Bomke, her husband, Elmer Herman Greening Sr., in 1989, her three children,
Virginia Mae Greening on November 15, 1933, Norman John Greening, on January 22, 1936, Shirley Mae Lunde on March 27, 2005, and three brothers and two sisters.
Elsie was always busy and enjoyed her yard with its many flowers and a garden. She enjoyed traveling, taking many trips throughout the country. She was also an avid bingo player. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
